AREDYLD syndrome

AREDYLD syndrome stands for acral-renal-ectodermal-dysplasia-lipoatrophic-diabetes. This syndrome has been described in three individuals. People with this condition have exhibited a combination of features that include skin, dental, and kidney differences along with metabolic issues. In addition to the core characteristics, there are various other manifestations that make the condition unique. The syndrome has been observed in individuals with features such as lipoatrophy (loss of body fat), diabetes mellitus, and ectodermal dysplasia (affecting the skin, hair, and teeth). Renal alterations and dental abnormalities are also reported. This collection of symptoms has been noted in cases including one born to consanguineous parents, suggesting that there may be a pattern of inheritance.

Common symptoms in people with AREDYLD syndrome include lipoatrophy, diabetes mellitus, and features of ectodermal dysplasia. This might involve generalized hypotrichosis (sparse hair), dental abnormalities, and alterations in the kidney. Other manifestations have also been reported, highlighting the varied presentation of this syndrome.

AREDYLD syndrome is thought to be transmitted as an autosomal recessive trait. This means that the condition likely occurs when a person inherits two copies of a gene, one from each parent. There is no specific gene identified as the cause based on the available information.
