Mobius syndrome

Mobius syndrome is a very rare condition that people are born with. It is known for causing complete or partial paralysis of the face, meaning that the muscles used for facial expressions may not work as expected. In Mobius syndrome, the nerves that control the muscles of the face and the ability to move the eyes (specifically the abducens nerve) do not function normally. This results in challenges with smiling, frowning, or other facial movements, and it can also affect the ability to move the eyes outward. In addition to facial paralysis and eye movement problems, Mobius syndrome can come with other congenital anomalies or differences in body structure. While every person with this condition is unique, these challenges can impact communication, feeding, and other daily functions. Common signs of Mobius syndrome include facial paralysis or weakness, which can result in reduced ability to make facial expressions. Impairment in the movement of the eyes, particularly an inability to move the eyes laterally, is also reported.
