Cerebro-costo-mandibular syndrome (CCMS) is a multisystem developmental condition that primarily affects the face, jaw, ribs, and upper airway. Pathogenic changes in the SNRPB gene, which encodes a protein involved in processing genetic messages inside cells, disrupt normal embryonic development and underlie the disorder. Signs are usually evident at birth, so the condition affects males and females equally from the earliest days of life. Cleft or high palate repairs and feeding support reduce the risk of aspiration and improve growth. Hearing loss is addressed with audiology monitoring and hearing aids or middle-ear procedures. Orthopedic surveillance and, when indicated, bracing or surgery help manage scoliosis and chest wall rigidity. Cardiac anomalies are followed by cardiology teams, and dental issues are treated proactively to preserve oral health. Because the condition affects several body systems, care is best coordinated by a multidisciplinary team that may include genetics, pulmonology, otolaryngology, craniofacial surgery, orthopedics, speech therapy, and developmental specialists. Regular surveillance is an essential part of long-term care, helping to identify potential complications before they become serious. Families should discuss individualized management plans and follow-up schedules with their healthcare providers.

Outcomes for individuals with CCMS largely depend on the severity of airway and respiratory difficulties in early life and the degree of skeletal involvement over time. With timely airway management, nutritional support, and ongoing monitoring, many children survive infancy, achieve good growth, and participate in everyday activities. Developmental progress varies, and early access to therapies can optimize learning and communication skills. Severity and symptoms vary widely between individuals, so long-term quality of life cannot be predicted for a given child.
