Thiel-Behnke corneal dystrophy

Thiel-Behnke corneal dystrophy (TBCD) is a rare eye condition that affects the front part of the cornea. It is characterized by sub-epithelial honeycomb-shaped opacities in the superficial cornea that can eventually lead to progressive visual impairment. This condition is marked by distinctive changes in the layers of the cornea and has been recognized in medical literature with specific identifiers such as OMIM:602082, Orphanet:98960, and GARD:9275. The changes in the cornea can affect clear vision over time.

Common symptoms include the gradual loss of clear vision, which has been linked to the honeycomb-shaped opacities in the superficial cornea. People with this condition may notice that their eyesight becomes progressively impaired as the changes in the cornea worsen.
